The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) is the highest level inter-agency coordination and decision making-body in China. It is led by the United Nations Resident Coordinator, the designated representative of the UN Secretary General in China. The UNCT allows for all UN entities with activities in China to work as a team in formulating common positions on strategic issues and in ensuring coherence in action and advocacy.

The UNCT in China ascribes to the accepted principles and guidelines of the United Nations Development Group (UNDG),which unites all UN funds, programmes, agencies, departments, and offices at headquarter level that play a role in development.

The UNCT in China consists of 25 UN funds, programs and specialized agencies resident in China. Through the UNCT, the 25 organizations coordinate their work on a broad range of issues varying from poverty reduction, sustainable development, environmental protection, climate change, HIV/AIDS, gender and issues regarding China’s vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. The UN organizations work with governmental ministries and partners, civil society and the private sector at various levels.

The United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) guides the collective work of the UN in China to help the Government of China to achieve its national development priorities.
