What We Do
  • Sustainable Development Goals

With the Millennium Development Goals' (MDG's) deadline set to conclude at the end of 2015, discussion over what should succeed the MDGs — known as the ’Post-2015 Development Agenda’— is one of the most important conversations of this century.

  • Millennium Development Goals

In September 2000, building upon a decade of major United Nations conferences and summits, world leaders came together at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to adopt the United Nations Millennium Declaration.

The UN system’s work in China is guided by a strategic document called the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). The current UNDAF for 2011 to 2015 provided the framework for UN-China partnership during the period of China’s 12th Five Year Plan. It is based on a thorough analysis of national development challenges and of UN comparative advantages.

  • Theme Groups

As tasked by the UN Country Team (UNCT), China has seven UN Theme Groups that carry out programme/project coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation for each of the priority areas of the UN’s work in China, as agreed upon by the Government of China. Read more about the work of the seven Theme Groups below.

  • Joint Projects

Joint projects help the UN system to support the achievement of national development goals more coherently, effectively and efficiently. Currently, the UN Country Team in China implements a joint project in support of the Rights and Entitlements of Persons with Disabilities.
