UN General Assembly President met with UN China Country Team
Beijing, 3 July 2018 – The President of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák met with UN China Country Team during his visit to the People’s Republic of China on 3 July.
The world is facing more complicated and intertwined challenges. At this critical time, UN has the obligation to build an effective, reliable and strong system to address global issues in partnership with all stakeholders. Mr. Lajčák highly appraised China’s strong commitment to building shared future of all humankind and to upholding multilateralism. Belt and Road Initiative which has made remarkable contributions to promote connectivity of trade, people, policy, finance and infrastructure demonstrates that multilateral cooperation can create opportunities for the world. UN in China should lead the integration of Belt and Road Initiative with SDGs framework to ensure effective and result-based actions.
During the meeting, Mr. Lajčák also introduced the top priorities on the UN General Assembly’s agenda including: UN reform, Security Council reform and peacekeeping progress, and exchanged opinions with UN Country Team members on the issues that are commonly concerned.
The President met with Mr. WANG Qishan, Vice President of China, Mr. WANG Yi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister, and Mr. YANG Jiechi, State Councilor in Beijing.
