UN Secretary-General António Guterres attends the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation



Beijing, 26 April 2019- António Guterres spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2nd BRF. In his remarks, he noted that the Belt and Road Initiative could be conductive in closing the financial gaps; he also sees the initiative as an important space where green principles can be reflected in green actions. The United Nations country teams will support Member Sates in achieving harmonious and sustainable integration of Belt and Road projects in their own economic and societies.


On the afternoon of 26 April 2019, Guterres met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, expressed his appreciation for China’s support for the UN’s work, and exchanged ideas on BRI’s potential to align with the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development.


Guterres also met with President Nyusi of Mozambique.
